Sofia Boutella, 2024 Trophée des Arts
Sofia Boutella is a French-Algerian actress and former dancer. Boutella was born in Bab-El-Oued, Algeria, and began her classical dance education at the age of four. She left Algeria for France with her family at the age of 10 to escape the Algerian Civil War. A Nike commercial jump-started Boutella’s dance career, working with artists such as Madonna and Rihanna. In 2015, she appeared in her first film, Kingsman: The Secret Service opposite Samuel L. Jackson and Colin Firth, and in 2016, she appeared in Star Trek Beyond. In 2017, she starred in Atomic Blonde, with Charlize Theron and James McAvoy and The Mummy opposite Tom Cruise. In 2018, she appeared in Gaspar Noé’s Climax, the HBO drama, Fahrenheit 451, and the crime thriller, Hotel Artemis, alongside Jodie Foster. Boutella just wrapped production on Dreamquil with Elizabeth Banks and John C. Reilly, and Lucca Mortis directed by Peter Greenaway and starring Dustin Hoffman. She can most recently be seen in the new J. J. Perry feature The Killer’s Game opposite Dave Bautista and Ben Kingsley for Lionsgate, and Zach Snyder’s Rebel Moon Part I & II for Netflix. Later this year she can be seen in season two of Steven Knight’s television series SAS Rogue Heroes with Dominic West for Kudos and BBC One. Boutella currently resides in Los Angeles, CA.
Christine & Stephen Schwarzman, 2024 Pilier d’Or
Christine Schwarzman, an intellectual property attorney, has become a Broadway producer, winning six Tony Awards. Through No Guarantees, the theatrical production company she founded in 2017, she has produced or invested in over 35 shows. Stephen A. Schwarzman is Chairman, CEO and Co-Founder of Blackstone, one of the world’s leading investment firms. In addition to their professional success, the Schwarzmans have made transformative philanthropy a central pillar of their lives. Major gifts have included: $100 million to the New York Public Library; £185 million to the University of Oxford – the largest since The Renaissance – to redefine the study of the humanities for the 21st century; a foundational $350 million gift to establish the MIT Schwarzman College of Computing, an interdisciplinary hub to address the opportunities and challenges presented by the rise of artificial intelligence; and $163 million to Yale University to establish the Schwarzman Center, a first-of-its-kind campus center in Yale’s historic “Commons” building. In 2013, Stephen founded an international scholarship program, “Schwarzman Scholars,” at Tsinghua University in Beijing to educate future leaders.
The Schwarzmans have also made extensive philanthropic gifts in France, including to the Château de Chambord to restore the formal gardens and to restore the dome lanterns on the roofing of Chambord Castle and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs to fund the rehabilitation of its fashion exhibition space, now named the “Galeries Christine et Stephen A. Schwarzman.” They have also made other gifts to the Louvre and Versailles. In recognition of their contributions to France, Mr. Schwarzman was awarded the Légion d’Honneur and the Ordre des Arts et des Letters, both at the Commandeur level and Mrs. Schwarzman was awarded the Légion d’Honneur at the Chevalier level.
